Head West, it’s best: a Taranaki weekend

TaranakiThere are plenty of reasons for heading out West to Taranaki – quiet roads once you turn off highway 1, gorgeous mountain, warm black sand beaches with wild surf, and green paddocks full of friendly cows as far as the eye can see…

Rugby finals fever and secret accommodation deals

We’re all done bar the final and the fairy tale continues for the All Blacks who are through to the championship game of their home tournament and one last showdown against a recent World Cup nemesis – France. I wondered too, how many had travelled to Wellington to see one of grunge’s greats to play a few Soundgarden tunes?  I can count my brothers from Hastings at least!

As a Wellingtonian that gets grumpy if I have to travel further than to Petone, it bugs me when bands I love only come for a one off gig in Auckland – you basically have to be U2 or Guns ‘N Roses to get me to a concert  in Auckland – so what’s on the horizon that would get me or you there?
